“Good morning Mumbai” in our favorite RJ’s (radio jockey) voice, a steaming cup of coffee in our hands and our day begins. Imagine this same morning but with a different start. Freshly brewed coffee, oven fresh bread, cookies with breakfast in the same early morning hours and of course the very same show in radio station with your favorite songs; which one would you pick? Second one, right? So did many other mumbaikars. Hence the rising star café restaurants in Mumbai are born.
In earlier days famous Mumbai special ‘cutting chai’ was probably the only solution for all of our troubles. Be it a confusion of a student or trouble at work or dilemma in family life; everything used to be discussed over a ‘cutting chai’ on the corner of the street. But now time has changed. Yes, now many of us are preferring coffee over our beloved ‘chai’ (tea). The reason behind this change is the rise of the coffee culture, rather to say café culture in India, especially in Mumbai. This has not only changed our taste but also affected our life style. The journey of ‘discussion to decision’ has shifted it’s place from the bench of a road side stall to a cozy corner table of a coffee shop in Mumbai.
These coffee shops or café are not just a place to hang around with old friends anymore. They have stepped into a much bigger picture now; they have become our second home actually. Be it a group of students with loads of project work or an employer to interview his next employee or in a casual meeting; a cozy corner seeking young couple or middle aged parents who are looking for a tiny break from their baby cribs; all are uniting under the roof of these café restaurants in Mumbai. Even sometimes people come here just to take their shoes off and play their favorite games. Because here nobody actually cares whether you are reading a book on your kindle or listening to music on your iPad or simply watching other people over your coffee. Here people feel free from their regular hullabaloo of life. And top of all the aroma of freshly brewed coffee will always keep you warm and fresh!
We always embrace the changes in our life and when a change is actually offering us lot of goodness we welcome it with a warm smile. So we did to the bakeries in Mumbai. Many of these local bakeries are tuning into cafés these days and number is increasing rapidly. In spite of having so many large coffee chains like Starbucks, CCD (Café Coffee Day), Barista, The Coffee Bean or Gloria Jeans Coffee, Mumbai is appreciating these local bakeries too. Yes, price is one reason but availability of local food beside sandwiches also has a big role to play. How about a cup of cappuccino with a plate of Vada Pav or Keema Pav? Or Pav Bhaji or Ragda Pattice with café latte? Lip smacking, isn’t it?
Be it desi (national) or videshi (international), Mumbai has accepted the caffeine rush to continue its journey and we are proud to be a part of it!
